Project Preserve®: According to America's Second Harvest Food Bank, nearly 70-billion pounds of food have gone to waste this year. That's why local food banks find ways to fight hunger by using potentially wasted food. At the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, they've invested in equipment to process that food in their own building. It's a one-of-a-kind food rescue program that makes perishable food available to those who need it most.

Project Preserve® began as a program to take bulk food donations and put them into a stable form we could distribute to our agencies. Our first canning was made possible in 1992, using all donated ingredients, materials and labor. Unable to meet the demand with donated products, Project Preserve®, evolved to a Co-op/Purchase program that was offered nationally in 2001.

WHY PURCHASE PRODUCTS FROM US?

144 Affiliates in 43 states have used Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee as a supply for affordable food purchases.
These programs have been successful because they increase food bank traffic and provide a revenue stream for additional purchases and/or meet the needs of funding streams.

We believe to have a number of unique benefits to offer our customers and are interested in serving all food banks within the ASH network.

  1. Nonprofit Supplier
    • All proceeds go into our mission of feeding hungry people.
  2. Lowest Prices Available
    • Our prices are competitive in the market, and we consistently sell at less than wholesale rates. We have a core of long-term suppliers and are always searching for the products food banks request and need.
  3. Inventory Control
    • We will assemble orders of varied products and quantities allowing food banks greater flexibility in purchasing.
  4. Recipe Control
    • We manufacture some of our own boil-in-bag food products through the Project Preserve program. We control the production process, so recipes can be changed for sodium levels and fat content.
